Run Lola Run (1998)

This is a solid German movie. Time is running out for Lola (Franka Potente). She’s just received a frantic phone call from her boyfriend Manni, who’s lost a bag with 100,000 marks that he owes to his mobster boss. Lola hopes her father, who works for a bank, can help her, but she only has twenty minutes to get the money to her boyfriend before he faces serious consequences.

The film includes a mixture of animation and live action. The story is played out three times, with each leading to a different outcome. The actress also appeared in The Bourne Supremacy. When the Euro was accepted as the official currency in Germany, the exchange rate was fixed at roughly 1.95 marks per euro. Polish film director Kieslowski often used the similar methods of a time limit and alternative scenarios. The film includes allusions to Vertigo (1958): the Spirale Cafe, the spiral stairway, and the painting of Kim Novak in the casino.
