The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)

This is a solid movie. After the violent deaths of his wife and young son, Missouri farmer Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood) is on the run, chased by a band of killers. He likes to work alone, but is constantly meeting people who need his support. While staying in a fortified ranch house they are ambushed by the Redlegs from Kansas.

The film is based on the 1973 novel The Rebel Outlaw: Josey Wales written by Forrest Carter. There was a farmer named Bill Wilson from Missouri who was neutral about the Civil War until a confrontation with Union soldiers turned him into an outlaw. The Sacking of Osceola occurred on September 23, 1861, when Senator and general James H. Lane led a force of 1200 troops to drive Southern sympathizers out of Missouri.
